Stralsund: between Kontor and Quayside
Almost entirely surrounded by water and unique architectural beauty – a city trip to the old Hanseatic city of Stralsund brings moments you won’t forget.
It is not even 7 am and our breakfast table on the terrace of the hotel “Hafenresidenz” is already set. The view to the Strelasund is breathtaking; the island Rügen is within reach and its sister island Hiddensee is visible on the horizon. Can a day at the sea begin any better than with the sound of the waves in your ear and the salty, fresh morning air in your lungs?!
In the heart of the Hanseatic city
As soon as we leave the hotel, we are already in the middle of the old town of Stralsund, which has been designated a World Heritage Site, and are greeted by the town hall with its proud facade. Every step of the way we encounter imposing gabled houses with magnificent fronts.
Off to sea!
In the Ozeaneum at the edge of the old town we admire and experience 50 aquariums dedicated to the northern seas and five exhibitions. One of the highlights is “The Open Atlantic”, a gigantic aquarium with sharks, rays and schools of mackerels.
Our tour ends in a 20 meter high hall “1:1 Giants of the Sea”.
Innovative brewing art since 1827
The ever-present proximity to water leaves us thirsty. A visit to the Störtebeker Brauquartier is just the right choice. During daily guided tours, visitors learn interesting facts about the history and production of beer while tasting the internationally award-winning Störtebeker brewing specialities. The brewers from Stralsund won the “World Beer Cup” and the “European Beer Star” several times.
Experience Stralsund from its most beautiful side
We end the day full of experiences with a sunset at the beach of the seaside resort Altefähr, located on the other side of the Strelasund. From Stralsund the ships of the White Fleet commute several times a day, the journey takes about 15 minutes. The view to the silhouette of Stralsund in the sunset is a gorgeous end of the day.
